100th Day Fun!!

Friday was the 100th day of school. The day started off with a few wonderful surprises. The Terry Parker Band and Cheerleaders took part in our pep rally!

Then one of our own classmates won the raffle for the bike for having "Perfect Perfect Attendance" :) Kierra looked great on her new bike.

I snapped a picture as Mrs. Gray read her name! Lots of smiles and hugs for her, we were so proud!!!

At the Pep Rally we turned in our 55 toothbrushes collected this week for Hubbard House. Together the first grade collected over 250 toothbrushes! The rest of the school collected lots of shampoo and toothpaste!!










Our class collected 110 items for the Souper Bowl of Caring, and the school collected around 2,600 items for the food drive! Thank you to all the families who donated cans and toothbrushes this week!

After the spelling test we had a 100th day themed snack. YUM!

Later that day, we had a lot of fun making Fruit Loop necklaces, rolling the dice to 100, recording our numbers, and building with 100 legos, cubes, and blocks.

It's been a great 100 days, looking forward to the next 80 being just as wonderful!

Family Reading Night

There's an upcoming event we're very excited about hosted by Chick-fil-a. They are supporting the Read It Forward Jax program by donating 10% of proceeds the night of Monday, January 23rd. Students will be coming home with a ticket with our school name on it to take to Chick-fil-a when you go. Family Reading Night

Duval County Public Schools and Chick-fil-A are hosting Family Reading Night to support Read It Forward Jax!

Enjoy student activities, read-a-louds and great conversations about promoting literacy amongst our students!

Looking for a place to donate a book? There will be book drop-offs at each location.

Everyone is welcome! 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Read It Forward Jax!.

Upcoming Field Trip!

We have just been scheduled for a quick and fun field trip on the morning of Thursday Jan. 26th. We will be going to Douglas Anderson to watch a performing arts program put on by the students there. The trip costs $4 per child and each student will need to bring a bag lunch or purchase a bag lunch from school. I will be sending home the forms and permission slips as soon as I get them!!

Compass Odyssey

Since the computer lab has opened we've been able to get on the computers as a class this last month. We mostly log on an educational site called Compass Odyssey. This website is great because after students finish a test, it creates a Learning Path full of games to help them work on the items they missed on the test. I will be sending home your child's personal login tomorrow along with the website link. It would be great if your child could log at home over the holidays! They should almost be finished with their test so the games will be under Reading Assignments -- Learning Path.

Double Birthday Celebration!

Field Trip to the Zoo!

 

After signing a reading contract, promising to do our best reading, we had a reading celebration! We had  graham crackers, frosting, topped with a gummy worm! Yum!

This week is Red Ribbon Week! We have been pledging to be Drug and Alcohol Free with a variety of activities! Pictures from that will be coming soon!

Another week gone!

We have been having so much fun it's hard to believe two weeks have gone by already! Today we had our monthly (hopefully) flag raising! Please enjoy some pictures from this fun event!

Ahhh resource time (: That gives me time to give you an update about our day!

Today in skills block we talked about noticing letters in our names. As a class, we sorted everyones name by the first letter, then by the second letter, then by the upstairs letters and downstairs letters! (they came up with these ways themselves!) Then they got to work with partners to sort the names how they wanted to and put them into a graph like we did together.

Your children are SO creative! Take a look at all the different ways they thought of to sort!
